Elissa Hidalgo

Head Coach

Elissa Hidalgo has over 18 years of experience in dance, starting at Tina’s Dance Academy where they trained in all styles and competed for 8 years. Elissa Hidalgo also volunteered as a teacher for various age groups, taking on responsibilities from class instruction to recital organization. At Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), Elissa was a key member of the FGCU Dance Team for four years, holding leadership roles including Fundraising Chair, Spirit Chair, and managing social media. In her senior year, Elissa served as Team Captain. The team achieved notable success, placing 3rd and 4th in D1 Jazz at DTU Nationals in 2022 and 2023. Elissa transitioned into coaching, first as Assistant Coach for two years, before becoming Head Coach in 2025. In her coaching role, she focuses on technical training,team-building exercises, oversees competition preparation, and mentors athletes. One of her main priorities is offering guidance and feedback to encourage athletes to improve both as dancers and individuals.As Head Coach, Elissa is committed to growing the team’s competitive success and creating a positive, empowering environment for all dancers.

Willow Albergo

Assistant Coach

Willow Albergo is an FGCU alum and former dancer on the team that competed in the UDA Nationals Finals in 2015.
 
Her journey through dance has been marked by numerous achievements and experiences that have shaped her into the dynamic instructor she is today. As a coach for the Barron Collier High School Dance team, Willow was able to inspire and mentor young dancers, helping them to improve their skills and build confidence both on and off the stage. Her performances at various events around Fort Myers highlighted her versatility and commitment to the local dance community, earning her recognition and respect. Willow has been teaching at Dancemakers School of the Dance in Tampa for nearly 10 years furthering her education in dance. She brings technical expertise, adaptability, mentorship, and interpersonal skills developed through a successful dance career that includes time in Los Angeles, New York, and at Walt Disney World.  
Completing a 500-hour Pilates Instructor certification has further enhanced Willow’s expertise. This certification has equipped her with advanced knowledge of body mechanics, enabling her to offer specialized training that focuses on injury prevention and efficient movement. Her Pilates classes are tailored to complement dance training, providing dancers with the tools to enhance their technique through low-impact exercises that build strength and flexibility. Upon her return to the FGCU dance team, Willow became certified in Dancer Safety through the National Dance Coaches Association. 
As Assistant Coach of the FGCU team, she guides, supports, and elevates team performance, ensuring efficient and effective operation.  She provides individualized feedback, assessing strengths and weaknesses, and overseeing conditioning programs to maintain athlete fitness and prevent injuries.  She teaches proper form, encourages healthy habits, and inspires athletes to give their best effort while navigating competitive challenges.   She shapes a positive team environment by setting expectations, enforcing team standards, modeling professionalism, and promoting sportsmanship.  Her dedication and expertise have helped transform the FGCU Dance team into a unified, high-performing group, developing athletes both as competitors and individuals.
